Just a few things I’ve been up to this summer.

I’ve loved having a garden for the first time this year. I’ve harvested the lavender and am planning on making some lovely gifts with my spoils.

I’ve finally finished my dining chairs. They are a hand-me-down from my auntie. The chairs have seen many layers of paint in the past! I used colours inspired by our -eclectic- dining room. A red sofa, yellow accessories and purple table mats to name a few….

I gave the chairs a good rub down with sandpaper and slapped on a few coats. I used discounted odd pots of paint from Homebase, including Matt emulsion. Yes, it will probably chip. I sprayed the chairs with a few coats of clear laquer to protect them 😉
Lastly, a super quick collaged birthday card made using metallic scraps of paper.

the simplest summer dish for dining al fresco, inspired by Jamie Oliver’s stuffed focaccia.

Recipe:

Focaccia bread (my alternative was a floury loaf with olive oil, garlic and rosemary)

Jar of roasted peppers

Jar of sundried tomatoes

Olives

Fresh mint and basil

Mix the ingredients in a bowl while the bread warms up in the oven. Ta-da!

I served with mozerella pearls & tomatoes covered in pesto, and a salad with cured ham.

A little roundup of things I’ve been up to. (Lots of Pom Pom making! )

Homestuff: IKEA jungle print curtains (made by muma Allen) and a bank holiday spent pressure washing the patio.

Experimenting with net lighting on the patio, and little IKEA shelves above the bed (Leirvik frame)

Little sewing jobs like making a giant outdoor cushion!

things have been a little quiet here- but very busy behind the scenes. Last year we bought our first house and, although we have not had structural work done, everything has needed updating. The house was rented, and run into the ground.

Most of the rooms have been dramatically improved by a clean, new carpet, and a lick of paint. But the kitchen was another matter. It was a real bodge job, and uncared for. Bad tiling, bad paint job, bodged cupboards and a washing machine and dishwasher stacked on top of each other.

I’m a real scrimper, will DIY when I can, but the kitchen was all done by Homebase, and I don’t regret a thing!

Cupboards: Chancery gloss white

Tiles: White subway gloss

Counter: light bamboo laminate

Our experience was on the whole positive.
